During 2006, the activities of SIBTEL have been consolidated as compared with the expansion of financial sector which was generated by the booming performances of the Tunisian Economy. This amelioration can be seen at the levels of the growth of the GDP which reached 5.3% in reel terms as compared to the 4% achieved during the previous year. Investments also increased by 8.8% compared to 5.3% in 2005. As far as exports are concerned, we notice an important evolution of the foreign trade, characterized by a substantial increase of exports and a clear acceleration of imports, where figures show respectively 12.6% and 15.6% against 12.9% and 7.2% in 2005.
Concerning the evolution of the banking and financial systems, bank rolls and their counterparts have met, as a consequence to the strengthening of the real economic indicators, an increase higher than the one recorded in 2005, particularly the M3 monetary aggregate which increased by nearly 11%.
Within this framework, SIBTEL recorded, during 2006, a sustained growth of telecompensation activities with an increase by 6.1% in the number of telecompensated values and by 11.7% for their total amount against 2.4% and 4.9% the previous year. Similarly, SWIFT activities progressed by 13.3% compared to 2005.
A similar evolution illustrates the increasing contribution of SIBTEL to the development and strengthening of the efficiency of the banking and monetary systems, through the realization of the payments of the economic and financial transactions in the best possible conditions of celerity, security and with lesser costs.
